Portable and handheld gas detectors let you conveniently monitor gas levels anywhere. They come in 2 basic variations:
Diffused Air - let you measure or monitor the air around you, indoors or outdoors. Because the internal battery only has to power the sensor, diffused air meters tend to use less power. However, they typically take about a minute to register changes in gas levels.
Air Sampling - contains a micro pump that pulls air into a port, sends it across the sensor inside, then expels it through a second port. The ports can be connected to the tubing so that the sampled gas is returned to a closed container. Since sampling meters react much more quickly to changes in gas levels a sampling meter can be used to check for leaks with pin-point accuracy.
How much does a portable gas detector cost?
Prices for battery operated, portable gas detectors range dependent upon the consumer model and dependent upon a single gas or multiple gas capability.
Since the more expensive models are typically used in commercial or industrial settings, they are made of high-impact plastic for long-life and have features like data logging, high accuracy, replaceable sensors, and can easily be calibrated.
The most expensive portable gas detectors can have features like built-in micro pumps for pin-point air sampling, or can test for exotic gases like hydrogen or nitrogen.
In general, the smaller the size, and the more features it includes, the more you'll pay for a portable gas detector.
What's the Difference Between the PRO-10 and the Aspida?
1. The PRO-10 utilizes non-dispersive infrared sensor technology at its core, alerting others instantly with high quality sensing should a potential leak be present.
2. The Aspida has an optional faceplate for mounting. The PRO-10 has a hook on the back for looping through a belt, it is designed for personal safety in mind.
3. The PRO-10 has a measurement interval every 2 seconds, while the Aspida has a measurement interval every 7 seconds.
4. The Aspida is designed to analyze the air quality from a portable decompression chamber, while the PRO-10 is designed for personal safety anywhere there is a confined space with CO2.
